FRIEND,

You may be able to help a beautiful peace building effort bear good fruit in South America, not only in South Bronx. Grupo Muzenza grew there from a small ghetto Capoeira (Brazilian martial art) club into a 300 member organization under Prof. Michael Niño-Ortega, but its "Peace Dojo Muzenza Colombia" in Bogotá, Colombia, faces three difficult obstacles:

1. Grupo Muzensa, now renamed "Roda de Paz Muzenza Colombia" (‘Roda’), needs follow up training in Peace Dojo methods, Alternatives to Violence Project and Aikido.^*

Travel & living (2008, 3 weeks for myself and a co-facilitator)

2. Prof. Niño and two leaders need six weeks intensive training in the methods of Bronx Peace Dojo, Alternatives to Violence Project and Aikido under Urban Visions.

Travel & living (late 2008 for the three leaders of Roda de Paz)

3. Roda needs an emergency relief fund (e.g. Prof. Niño this year developed a treatable, congenital eye disease, keratoconus, and is going blind; insurance refused to cover treatment).

* On this trip we also will train demobilized child paramilitary soldiers and their Alternatives to Violence Project facilitators in I-Key physical nonviolence in collaboration with Taller de Vida and PAV-Colombia in Bogotá. We expect this in July and included it in Item 1. above.
